Mr Pitt, who appeared for Mr Connolly made application for rule nisi to be made absolute. Mr Fell opposed for the defendants, and laised preliminary objections as to insufficient pmof of publication. Counsel cited numerous cases aud the Judge ruled on the ease of ftegina v. Baldwin that the rule must be discharged. Costs not allowed as the point was a technical one. The libel consisted in an allegation, made by the " Colonist" newspaper, that Sir David Monro, in 1862, as speaker, put back the clock of House of Representatives iu order to carry a party measure. Fox and Luckie had filed affidavits which it is said would have traversed the affidavits of Sir David Monro, but they were not read in Court. Wellington, May 4. Very stormy weather. A boat belonging to H.M.S. Virago was capsized. There were thirteen hands iu it, and they were all picked up but two warrant officers, named Stewart aud Smith, and one of the boat's crew, named Taylor, who were drowned.
