ATTEMPTED BURIAL OF A LIVING CHILD.

Early in January a man named Joseph Tarbuck. who resided at 92 Catherine ctreet, Ashton-under-Lyne, died, and arrangements were made for the interment of the body. All the usual preliminaries having been arranged, and just as the coffin was about to be lowered into the grave, a few persons present were rather startled by a scream, which undoubtedly proceeded from the coffin. The noise being continued, the coffin was removed to a convenient place and opened, and in addition to the deceased man it contained a female living child, apparently about five or six weeks old. It has been ascertained that the mother of the child was married to the deceased man about a year ago, and the police have also discovered that the death of the child had been duly registered at the registrar's office. The remains of the deceased were interred, and the child was taken to the Sali'ord police station. The Ashton police are making further enquires about the matter. The child, whom there is reason to believe had poison given to it, has since died at the Salford police station. It was remarked at the time the discovery was made, that a woman who accompained the funeral suddenly disappeared from the cemetery.
