The second entertainment of the present series caine off on Monday evening last. There was a large attendance, and Mr Mitchell occupied the chair. The first item on the programme was a short lecture entitied " Goldfield Eeminiscences," deli, vered in an off-hand manner by Mr Ellis, after whieh followed a cleyerly given humorous reading by Mr Pranklin. The Glee Club next rendered an exquisite piece of harmony entitled) " I'll not ask thee to forget me," Mr Greenwood taking the solo parts in a manner that did credit to him as a singer, and must have proved a rich treat to the audience. Mr Moore read some oratorical extracts .in capital style. Mr Shapter neit read a piece entitled " Mary, Queen of Scots," this was the first time we have had the pleasure of hearing this gentleman read ; he will, doubt less, prove a valuable acquisition to the institute. " Tell's Prison apeech" was given with good effect as a recita- I tion by Mr Droomgool. The GieeH Club made another happy selection iiifl "Ring the Bell Watchman." Mr I Harcourt read some useful passages B upon " Gentlemen's Manners." il comic reading entitled " Richelieu,"B by xUr Fyvie, was given in his usual fl style, and well received. The enter<B tainment concluded by the GleeOlubß singing " Who will care for motherß The Rev. Mr White proposed afl vote of thanks to the chair, whiehß was carried by acclamation.
