Mr Aspinall is seriously ill. Lindeman, auctioneer, of Adelaide' has levanted with a sailing vessel, bound for Cork ; and Simpson, an insurance clerk, is arrested for embezzlement. Melbourne, Feb. 25. Sullivan and Leigh,for bushranging, have been sentenced to fifteen and twelve years' penal servitude respectively. Ellen Tighe, for infanticide, has been sentenced to death. Changeable, showery weather prevails. Andrew love, once a member of the Assembly, has been committed for trial, charged with misappropriating a bill of exchange. The Thermopylae passed Cape Otway this morning, fifty-nine days out. Protection meetings are being held ; .also meetings against the abolition of Sunday trading. Breadstufl's are quieter. Sales of Adelaide wheat are made at Gs. Trade salts of flour have been made at £l4. Oats are dull, at 3s 8d to 3s 9d. There have been large speculative transactions in brandy at very full prices. A hundred and thirty tons of Adelaide flour have been sold for transhipment to New Zealand. The sugar market is very firm -, kerosene also ; sales at 2s 7d to the trade. New Zealand flax is easier ; sales, £l6 to £2l. Arrived —Zephyr, from Hokitika. Sailed —Aborigine, for Hokitika. Sydney. The Assembly has negatived Samuel's amendment on the financial policy of the Government by a majority of twelve. The sugar market is excited. Freights to England have advanced seven-eighths, ships being required for ■wool. Loraudo Jones ha*? been sentenced to two years' imprisonment and £l2O fine for blasphemy.
