The wool sales commenced on Oct. 27th, with <i stock of 200,000 bales. There was a large attendance of home buyers, but the continent was poorlyrepresented ; the competition was moderate, and closing prices of last sales were realised, with the exception of fine wools, which have declined. Tallow is quoted at 4ls to 435. Consols 924. New South Wales loan of hall'-a-million, bearing five per cent., was taken up at d£9S 13s 6d. A new French loan is being subscribed. Colonial securities are firm* The New Zealand quotations given in the latest telegrams are under date Oct. 3L—New Zealand debentures 98iV. Exports to Australia show a heavydecrease, but an increase to New Zealand of £35,000. In the produce markets, leather is in steadv demand at a farthing per lb advance. In New Zealand flax, 5500 bales were brought to the hammer, aud 1500 were sold at an advancer -
