ANOTHER AUSTRALIAN GOLDFIELD.
Like Tasmania, "Western Australia means to havo its goldfield. The "Perth Inquirer" of the 16th July publishes the following:—"The intelligence of the discovery of gold at the Upper Irwin has been confirmed by an oflicial report furnished to the Government by Sub-inspector Piesse, sent thither in consequence of certain reports made by a man named Brelsford, and afterwards through samples of the precious metal being exhibited by Mr Robert Pearson, reported by him to have been found in the neigh* borhood indicated by Brelsford. Mr Piesse explains the country to be near the Coal Seam Reserve, distant about. eighty miles from Champion Bay, and as within the area pronounced by Mr Simpson to the Government to be auriferous, some time ago. The greatest depth sunk to was 2ft, and in eight holes out of thirteen in a circuit of ten miles, gold of a shotty nature was found, some within two or three inches of the surface. The whole of the country was very boggy, the party having for twenty-five miles to lead their horses, and ultimately leave them behind. Forty-two grains of the precious metal were obtained from three bucketfuls of earth, which was largely impregnated with sand.
