THE WAIRAU GOLDFIELD.
Owing to the continued wet weather, says the " Marlborough Express," events have been very unfrequent in this locality. Still the number of men on the ground is rather augmented than otherwise by the arrival of some parties of West Coast men, who are engaged in prospecting the neighboring ranges. Small lots of gold continue to be found, much of which finds its way to Havelock. The Sutherland reef is at present at a stand-still until the arrival of the requisite machinery for crushing. The adjoining block which was recently pegged off by Messrs Leek and Smith on behalf of another company, was rushed on Sunday last by a party of West Coast men, who had found good gold in a boulder which lay on the claim. The jumpers assert that the regulations had not been complied with by Leek and others, in posting the requisite notices. We understand that some litigation will ensue therefrom. Since the above was in type information has reached us that the blocks above and below the reef, for which application had been lodged for leases, have been rushed. Application has been made for rights, &c, by a party who have taken up twelve men's ground in the same close vicinity. Tbis looks very promising for the reef. A Warden's Court is to be held regularly at Bartlett's Creek.
