NOMINATION AND ELECTION.

The "nomination took place at the Court-house, on Saturday, at /clock. The Eeturning Officer (Dr Giles) read the writ, calling upon the Electors to return a Member to represent the district of Westland North in the General Assembly. Mr Pitt proposed Mr Thomas Alfred Sneyd Kynnersley, remarking briefly that he hoped the services of that gentleman would, even at this late period of the current session, be found of some service to the district in the Assembly. The Returning Officer asked for Mr Kynnersley's qualification, when his miner's right was produced. Mr John Braithwaite seconded the pomination, remarking that no one was, in his opinion, better qualified for the seat. If the candidate, just nominated, was as successful in representing the district, as he had been in governing it, he believed, all would be well satisfied. (Applause.) No other candidate having been proposed, the Eeturning Officer declared Mr Kynnersley duly elected. Mr Kynnersley thanked those present for the compliment paid him, and more especially the electors for returning him without opposition. He was notdisposed, as was common at such meetings, to promise everything merely ito please electors, but he hoped they would watch his proceedings in the Assembly and criticise his doings fairly, and if he had the honor of coming again before them, he trusted his action during this session would meet with their approval. Having so recently addressed them, he would only remark that he would ask for an explanation of the delay of the writ for Westland North, through which delay the district had not been earlier represented. He moved a vote of thanks to the Eeturning Officer, a gentleman of strict justice, integrity, and impartiality, which was duly acknowledged.
