THE WANGAPEKA LAND SALES.
FEESH ACTION BY THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT. (BYELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.) (from our own correspondent.) Nelson, Monday. The Provincial Government has instructed surveyors to proceed tomorrow to ascertain the line between the Arthur and Mount Owen, really for the purpose, as admitted by the Provincial Secretaiy, of enabling purchasers of the land to go into Court and to bring evidence supplied by the Government. This is considered unjust until the decision of the Government on Mr Domett's report is received. This precipitate action, while matters are still in abeyance, is looked upon in the same way as was the Government's action in sending up Mr Broad, they knowing that the petition in the hands of the General Government was understood to have proposed to extend the boundary of the Goldtiehls to the river Motueka or thereby. Therefore there is no need to take Mount Owen into account. The thing looks like the Provincial Government identifying itself with the purchasers. Domett's decision was not based on the question of bo undary, but on the grounds that auriferous land was illegally sold as rural land.
