News from Auckland to the 4th inst. has been received by the John Penn. Mr Gillies has been elected Superintendent by a majority of 59. . Mr Creighton has resigned the Provincial Secretaryship. Messrs Hurst, Philips, and Ellis have been returned to the Council. The shareholders of the All Nations claim was to hold a meeting on Monday. A dividend of 4s. has been declared. Gold has been discovered at Tauranga, near Te Papa. The Hauhaus are reported to be in force at Kukaruku, near Tauranga. H.M. s. Rosario is under orders to sail for Wellington. Matters at the Thames are much depressed, and it is generally believed that a crisis is impending. Mr Walter Montgomery has been reading before the Governor and crowded audiences. A wire tramway is now regularly at work at the Shooting Star claim. News received from the Fijis states that a party, consisting of one European (a carpenter) and four natives, whilst travelling from Tumime to Mr Smith's cotton plantation at Naeab", had been taken by another tribe of the same island (Tanna), and killed and eaten. Beef 40s to 42s per 100 lbs. Fat; sheep 12s to 19s each. -Flour J615 to £l6 per ton.
