A CONTRADICTION.

(To the Editor of the Westport Times.) Sib, —In your issue of to-day a letter appears, signed "John Ellis," freely quoting my name in connection with the use of a letter sent to him by the Chairman of Mr Curtis'e Nelson Election Committee. It is painful to notice any statement emanating from such a source, but I beg to state that it is an " unmitigated falsehood" to aver that I either gave Mr O'Conor the letter referred to, or that he took it from me ; and it is untrue to assert that I either used or countenanced the use of it. Mr Jervis showed me the letter, which I read, and handed it back to him. That is the whole history of the part I had in the transaction, excepting that I advised him at once to return it to the person to whom it was addressed. It may be quite unnecessary for me to add that during the election I neither said, nor gave any person cause to say, that I supported Mr Curtis. My vote was given to assist the voice so unmistakeably raised by the AVest Coast people against the persistent disregard of their requirements by the Nelson Provincial authorities, and, if the result of this election proves to the Superintendent that the AVest Coast electors " haye a voice," a desirable object is attained. I have to say, in conclusion, that I have not, for at least two months, had any conversation or communication whatever with " John Ellis." Therefore, his making any reference to me is quite unwarranted. —Tours truly, George Ealla. - .
