MASONIC MEMENTO TO MR. E. K. TYLER.

On Thursday evening the members of the Masonic body met at the Masonic Hall to bid farewell to the late R.W.M., Brother E. K. Tyler, on the occasion of his departure to Shortland. A large number of the brethren were present, including a few of the craft from Charleston. After the opening of the Lodge, the brethren sat down to partake of an excellent repast prepared by Brother Hughes. Brother Reid, P.M., presided, and delivered the following address to the departing guest:— Dear Sib and Brother, —Your departure from our Lodge and from Westport affords us an opportunity of conveying our appreciation of your worth in the various positions-which you have occupied. When we say that your departure will create a void difficult indeed to supply, wc express no idle compliment. Especially will our Lodge miss you. The application, zeal, and impressiveness which have been so conspicuous in you will not readily be met with in any who may be elected to fill your place. We regret that the resources of Westport do not permit us the satisfaction of handing you, at the present time, some more tangible

mark of our esteem. We have, however, communicated with the Provincial. Grand Jeweller in Dunedin, ahd we" 1 will ere long .transmit to you the jewel appropriate to the honorable position you have filled with so much credit to yourself and with such advantage to the Lodge.' Brother Tyler's health was afterwards drank with great enthusiasm. After the completion of the special business of the evening, the company was augmented by the presence of several private friends of Mr Tyler, and two or three hours were passed very pleasantly in pledging toasts, with many songs and recitations interspersed. Mr Tyler, in addition to having been the Master of the Westport Lodge for the past year, was a gentleman who gained many good opinions of the public generally, and who had a large uumber of private friends, whose warm wishes for his future prosperity were on Thursday evening fully expressed.
