THE SUPERINTENDENCY.
MR CURTIS'S MEETING AT NELSON. (BY ELECTRIC TELEQBAPR.) (fEOM OTJB OWN cokeespondent.) Nelson, Tuesday. Mr Curtis addressed a full meeting of the electors last night. He received an attentive hearing. There is nothing new in his speech except that he retracted the language which he had used towards the Provincial Council. He gave figures relating to the West Coast for the past three years. He stated that the West Coast had got £70,000 a year against £30,000 a year for this side of the Province. The speech as a whole was tame. The meeting was terminated hy a vote of thanks being passed. Mr Curtis will not visit the West Coast. The steamer Charles Edward left last night for Westport, via Hokitika. Passengers for Westport did not know of the chauge of route till they were on board. Wellington, Tuesday. The Maori prisoners are being tried to-day in lots, and pleading guilty. Porty-fivc have already doue so. Their sentences have been deferred. Wednesday. There has been nothing unusual in the weather to-day. The tide was a little lower than yesterday. About sixty Maori prisoners pleaded guilty yesterday. Their sentences have been deferred.
