By telegraph we have Australian news to the 24th., brought to the Bluff by the Tararua, and by the arrival of the Alhambra at Hokitika we have dates up to the 20th. The Tararua arrived at the Bluff on Sunday morning, after a splendid passage of four days eight hours. The officers of the Kearsage are being feted by the citizens. The great diamond mania has subsided. A large number of small diamonds have been found on the Mudgee. The next largest diamond but one in the world the gr. ; at half-pound diamond discovered at Armidale—has turned out to be no diamond, but a waterwom long-exposed pebble of rock crystal. Mr Hunt, the manager of the Australian Company, has arrived in Sydney with a bag containing 110 diamonds, some of which are very fine stones. Clarke, of the Varieties, is to be tried for the murder of his wife. The coroner's jury brought in a verdict of " manslaughter," but the Government would not accept it, and iudict him on a charge of murder. The failure is announced of Messrs Joseph Kohn aud Co., dealers in fancy goods, in Hunter street. The estimated liabilities, including the English creditors, are £40,000, and the assets £23,000. M'lvinlay, the insolvent, has been committed for contempt of Court. Commercial matters are unsettled generally, aud confidence is disturbed. Adelaide. Gold has been found on the Murrav Flats. The Balclutha, branch mail steamer to the Sound, sprang a leak on the 7th. The water rose six feet. The mail and passengers were taken on board the Aurifera, ship, and landed at Port Adelaide. The Governor of Western Australia, Mr Weld, was among the passengers. The mails are detained one month. Wheat is in demand at 5s 3d.
