THE SHAMROCK LEAD.

Mining is stiil being carried on at the Shamrock Lead with continued persevereuce on the part of the claimholders, and with the same fair returns of gold, though no new ground has recently been opened or any extraordinary luck experienced. M'Laren and party's claim is admittedly the best one on the Lead, and has of late been yielding more than good wages, and, as they are said to have sufficient ground to afford them twelve months work yet, their prospects, as well as the present returns, are somewhat enviable. Graham and party are also earning more than ordinary wages, with the likelihood of nine or ten months' work. Malony and party's claim, known asthe " Sons of Freedom," will be vorked out in about two mouths, and is not yielding so well as some of the others. The tunnel party's returns continue steady, and Riley's party are busy erecting extended washing apparatus, and sinking a new shaft. Clear and party are likely to be worked out in a month. Theirs is the furthest south claim now being worked. The Shamrock Company, who have been waiting for their pumping gear, which is said to be on board the Nightingale from -V.elbourue, have sunk one shaft of 80 feet, where the pumps will be erected, and their other shaft is down between 40 and 50 feet. Until the arrival of the pumping gear the second shaft cannot be proceeded with, on account of the water. Their water-wheel is approaching completion, and their success in two or three months hence, (which time, it is said, it will take them to thoroughly test the ground) is looked forward to by all the other parties arouud, as much will depend on their fortune whether the other wet ground will be opened up. Four applications for leases have beeu made to the Warden, in addition to theirs, but seven acres to fourteen men is the quantity of ground likely to be recommended. Some informality in one or two of the applications is said to be the cause of their not having been before now recommended for registration.
