AGENTS IN THE WARDEN'S COURT.

(To the 'Editor of the Westport Times.) Sir, —Having seea in your journal of Saturday a fear remarks which were passed by our professional gentlemen of this town, owing to my having attended the Court on an application being called for a waterrace ou account of a party living on the Upper Buller, 1 beg you will allow me to pass a few remarks ou the subject. First our learned friend states that none but professional men are allowed to attend except they hold a written authority from the parties. Well, I may state that I held one. And secondly that I believe it has always bean the practice in AVestport since it has had the honor of holding a Warden's Court to allow a friend or business man to attend when such a simple c:\se as the one referred to is heard. And I think I am correct in stating that it is only very recently that the system of calling out applications for races in open court has been adopted, except where there are objections to be made. I also beg to state that I do not wish to deprive our learned friends of their fees, as it seems to me that that is the reason they applied to our worthy Warden for to stop the system. And I am very proud to see the view the hon. gentleman takes of it, for I may state the said party would have been put to a great expense and trouble to have been compelled to attend themselves, and I am sure they have not got a claim equal to the famous ones on the Northern Terrace, to allow them to pay professional fees, aud I fear our learned friends would not attend freo'gratis, and I consider it my duty as a business man to assist the miner in any way I can. Hoping you will excuse me for all errors, as lam not a professional man, or used to newspaper writing,— I am, yours &c. A. Beowis". Camp Store, August 3.
