The celebrated aeronaut, Mons. Alexander Chevalier, who successfully crossed the Irish Sea and landed in Cumberland, was to leave England for America on the 9th January, by the Cunard steamship Java, to uudertake the crossing of the Atlantic ocean in his balloon L'Esperance. The ascent will take place from the Castle Gardens, New York, and the voyage is expected to last three days and three nights. Mons. Chevalier's intention is to demonstrate the continuous belt of westerly currents which aio presumed to exist at the elevation of 10,000 feet.
