Nelson, Wednesday, 5 p.m. The Galatea reached here on Sunday, and the Duke of Edinburgh and suite landed on Monday. An enthusiastic reception was given His Royal Highness by the largest number of persons ever seen in Nelson.

A long procession was formed from the port to the city. Addresses were presented by his Honor the Superintendent, the Bisbop of Nelson, the Odd-Fellows and other bodies.

The Dress Levee was numerously attended.

The Duke drove up-country four in hand in the afternoon.

The ball was held on Monday evening and was a grand success. The Prince after supper spoke referring to the Superintendent's remarks. He said the Queen thought no colony of the empire inconsiderable, however small or distant.

The races took place on Tuesday, at which the Prince was present and seemed to enjoy himself much, mixing freely with the people. He expressed himself pleased with Nelson and the climate. All admired his frankness and affability. The Galatea left on Tuesday evening and was brilliantly illuminated. One of Redwood's jockeys named Laurie was killed at the Baces on Wednesday. Tie horse fell on him smashing his skull.

Major Noake is reported as having destroyed fourteen native villages at "Waitotara. Loot taken to the value of £l5O.
