THE WAKAMARINA "RUSH."
A few more particulars with regard to the discovery of gold in Mountain Camp Creek appear in the Marlborough papers. The Press publishes a letter from a correspondent who has gone to the rush and. taken a claim. Writing first from Havelock he says : " A great deal of excitement has been "caused in Havelock by the ai'rival of two diggers, Cunfoy and Boyd, who sold gold to several parties on Friday last, and who it was found had been prospecting in Mountain Camp Creek and obtained nearly two pounds weight of gold. Boyd sent his brother from here the same night to peg out a claim. The Creek has been rushed, and most of the diggers from Deep Creek have taken up claims thereSeveral parties start from here to-mor-row, and, as I am going myself, I will be able to send you further particulars in a few days." Two days after wards he writes from Mountain Camp Creek : " I arrived here last night and marked out a claim this morning. I saw Boyd's claim in the presence of Messrs Douslin, Cohen, and others; he washed three dishes of dirt, averaging half an ounce to the dish. None of the other parties have yet got in, but expect, if the fine weather holds, to do so in a few days. The creek is pegged out for a long distance. There are about sixty miners on it at present." By later reports it appears that nothing has occurred to justify the rush which is taking place, the recent discovery of a rich "pocket" of gold not having been followed by any discovery of a similar character. The prospectors continued to get some gold, but none of the others.
