THE BULLER ROAD.

{To the Editor of the Westport Times.) Sir, —The old adage " A new broom," &c„ I hope, will prove good, and our new M.P.C. will take the initiative, aad assist the mercantile and mining community in drawing up a petition to the Provincial Government to immediately take action, and put the Buller Valley Eoad in an efficient state of repair, so that provisions can be forwarded at a reasonable rate of cartage, as miners cannot develope, or scarcely prospect, the tributaries of the Buller river at the present high rate of carriage and disgraceful state of that road. £2OOO were voted in the last session of the Provincial Council for this work. Therefore you have a good cause to go upon. It is no excuse to say there is not funds. What do they do with the money P But this and various other little peccadilles of our Provincial Guardians your M.P.C. will look into. Mr Bentley sits upon his emply honor and does nothing for the district. Therefore our newly-elected member must excuse me in saying " Be up and doing." The district has suffered by the people electing men that knew nothing of the office they were to fulfil. Procrastination is the thief of time. The opening of the Buller Valley will give a new impetus to trade in Westport, and employment to thousands of miners, and will reimburse the public exchequer in the shape of gold duty, miners' rights, business licenses, and, last, not least, public-house licenses.— Tours, &c, One who does not reside in the District.
