THE BANKRUPTCY ACT.
In the Supreme Court, Dunedin, during the last Insolvency sittings, Mr Stewart, on hehalf of a creditor of a petitioner, John K. Hodgson, applied for an order under section 152 of the Act of 1867, which provides . " The Court may from time to time order that for a period not exceeding three months from the date of the order, post letters addressed to the bankrupt shall he readdressed, sent, or delivered to, the Trustee, and the same shall be done accordingly." Mr Wilson, for the petitioner, said that notice of the application had not been given, and the Judge, concurring, allowed that the matter might be mentioned again. During the next sittings, Mr Stewart renewed his application, the grounds for which he stated to be the insolvent had stated to two or three creditors, at various times, that he expected to receive money from England. The Judge granted the order asked for. Mr Stewart observed that the section under which it was given was very general, and it was a question to whom the order might be addressed—letters might arrive direct to the insolvent at Dunedin, or Kaitangata. In reply, the Judge said, " the order was applicable throughout New Zealand ; you may serve a copy upon any Postmaster you please." This is the first application that has been made under the 153 rd section of the Bankruptcy Act in this district, if not the whole of the Colony.
