THE HOSPITAL.
{To the Editor of the Westport Times and Charleston Argus.) Sir.—lt \ras my intention to add to my former letter about the Hospital, a few words respecting the general aim and objects of the institution, and the light in which it ought to be regarded by the miners. In yourissue of to-day, you invite me to send you a communication of that sort.
My willingness to comply with youv invitation is, however, counterbalanced by my reluctance to take part in any public discussion which calls forth such letters as the one signed " Another Subscriber "in your issue of this morning, and to which you refer in your leading columns as coming from " an intelligent correspondent." If this writer's productions are characterized by intelligence, I feel strongly that anything I could say upon the subject of Hospital management would appear very stupid, and I am consequently induced to abandon for the present my design of writing anvthiri" further.—l am. Sir, Yours obedientlv, Dec 3. Joseph Giles. [Our reference to our correspondent's " intelligence" had no regard to his intelligence on Hospital matters. As to these, he is obviously ignorant. But, for Dr. Giles's satisfaction, we may say that if he is not intelligent in the ordinary acceptation ofthe word, there is no intelligent man in Westport. It is possible that the postcript to the letter may have communicated to it a character which it woukrnot otherwise have possessed ; and we certainly regret that it appeared. Had it occurred in the body ofthe communication, and come more directly under our notice, it would, undoubtedly, have been excised.]
