THE CHRISTMAS SPORTS.

{To the Editor of the Westport Times and Charleston Argus.) Sir, —Through your paper this morning, Mr Freeth has thought proper to asperse the Sports Committee, because of some pet arrangements of his own. Witk tkat I will xiuL deal, cacept as a member of the Committee. But he has singled me out as- the victim of his spleen. That I may escape further persecutions, pray let it be known that the programme is now, with but very little alteration, the same as that which I enclosed to the former meeting, and which was there accepted in my absence. The other alterations were the election of five stewards, instead of the three appointed at the former meeting, who resigned, Mr Seaton's name being substituted for Mr Limbrick's as clerk of the course, and the insertion of that important clause in the conditions, which has the effect of prohibiting any resident in the district from, importing race - horses from the neighboring districts to walk off with our prizes. These alterations nobody should complain of, as I believe they ai*e true to the wishes of the great bulk of subscribers, and authorised by the fullest meeting of the Committee that ever took place. Mr Freeth questions the right of the Committee to rescind what was already confirmed. He forgot that the last meeting was held piarely to confirm (or otherwise) the programme, which could only be pas?yd at the first meeting. The Committee certainly had a right to alter it if they thought jt prop er to do so. Unfortunately for nry peace, all these altertions were unpalatable to Mr Freeth. In conclusion, Mr Editor, had I the power of eloquence which your pen commands, I would pourtray the deep feelings of my regret that the sports have lost the patronage of a gentleman of such known liberality as Mr I. Freeth.— I remain, Sir, Yours &c, b. J. O'Conor. Westport, Nov. 27. ;
