RESIDENT MAGISTRATE COURT.
Thursday, Nov. 26. (Before J. Giles, Esq., R. M.) Elizabeth Jackson and Kate Kent were charged with having stolen from Frederick Robertson two £5 notes, and three £1 notes, on the Bank of New South Wales, and 3s. 3d. in silver.
The prosecutor, Frederick Robertson, "did not appear, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Inspector Franklyn abandoned the charge against Kate Kent, and called her as witness, so as to justify a remand of Elizabeth Jackson.
Constable Ronke said that, on the previous evening, he had received information from Frederick Robertson that he had been robbed at the house of Kate Kent. He proceeded with Robertson to her house, and arrested her. From information he had received, he also proceeded to a house belonging to Mrs Lockyer, where he found the prisoner, and he arrested her also, on suspicion of having stolen the money. On the way to the lockup she said " I took the bloody money. I can do six months as well as any other woman. I would just as soon be in jail as out." She stated also that she had left the sum of £5 in the hands of Mrs Lumley, and, on proceeding to Mrs Lumley's, he there received five £1 notes as the property of the prisoner. Three of the notes were en the Bank of New South Wales. He had summoned and warned Robertson to appear. The prisoner was remanded for a week, the Magistrate offering to take bail of £SO, with two sureties of £25 each.
