ENGAGEMENT WITH NATIVES AT POVERTY BAT.
TB KOOTI SUPPOSED TO BE KILLED. The following telegram was posted at the Westport telegraph office yesterday, " for public information." It is apparently the copy of a telegram received by the Colonial Secretary from the Superintendent of the Province of Hawkes Bay. It is addressed to the Hon. J. C. Bichmond. "Wellington, and signed by Donald M'Lean; and it is dated Nov. 26th, 10. 5. a.m.: —
"An engagement took place on the 23rd inst., in Poverty Bay.. Te Kooti is supposed to have been killed.
" More than twenty of the enemy were killed. " The loss of the Grovermnent Natives was four killed, and twelve wounded.
" Neither party can bury their dead. " Our position is admirably situated for artillery practice. " A man-of-war's rocket brigade, with two light guns throwing shells, grape, &c, are much wanted."
