RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before T. A. S.Kynnersley, Esq.,lt.M.) Sattjeday, Apeil 11. peejtjet and impeesonation. John Jenkins, a milkman, was charged with perjury, and with impersonating one John Smith, at the polling-booth, on Thursday last. Loughlin Hunter, deposed—l know prisoner. I spoke to him on Thursday last, he said—" I have no vote, but I hava purchased a miner's right, so that I might be entitled to one, as by voting for _ Gallagher it would benefit his position. Dr. Giles, E.M., sworn—l am Returning Officer for Westland North. On Thursday last prisoner came to vote. Mr Payne, the clerk, took down his name and right. Mr Pitt wished the oath adminstered. I then asked prisoner what his name was ? He said " Smith." I then administered the oath, when he said his name was John Smith. Some conversation ensued with Mr Pitt, when prisoner admitted his name was not Smith. I then gave him into custody. Mr Tyler, for the prisoner, then applied for a remand until Monday next. The Magistrate remanded prisoner accordingly.
