ELECTION FOR WESTLAND NORTH.
As we predicted, tlie poll has resulted in the return of Mr Gallagher, and for the credit of the neighborhood, we are heartily sorry such has been the result. The outlying districts of Oobden and Ahura, cannot affect the large majority polled by Gallagher. Mr Home, in a great measure, can attribute his want of success to the negligence and apathy he has shewn in his canvas. The following are the returns at present known :
Mr Donne, as we always hoped and predicted, is nowhere, and his own particular constituency could not have shewn their appreciation of his popularity better than by polling the number 1 for him. We can only repeat that a more unsatisfactory return could not have been well made.
Grallagher. Home. Donne Westport, 10 38 4 Mokihinui, 3 1 9 Addison's, 341 48 3 Charleston, 147 84 7 Brighton, 106 109 1 607 280 24
