CHARLESTON NEWS.
There does not appear to be much interest taken in the forthcoming election, which takes place on Thursday next. Two out of the three Candidates have addressed the electors at public meetings, the third, Mr Home, has not yet spoken. Such silence connot be looked upon in any other light than disrespectful to the large constituency whom he seeks to represent, and we trust that before the poll takes place, Mr Home will make a declaration of his opinions and allow the public an opportunity of judging, as far as they can from verbal promises and statements, his suitability to represent them in the coming very important General Assembly. We observe the Bakers of Charleston have raised the price of bread from one shilling and sixpence to two shillings, this being in consequence of the great rise in the price of flour. Por the sake of the Easter Holidays we hope the present favorable change of weather will last. Thursday being polling day, will likely be made a sort of half-holiday. jNText day Good Priday, will doubtless be kept as a close holiday, and if the weather is at all fine the promised return match will be played between the miners and the Charleston Cricket Club.
