FENIANISM MUST NOT BE MURDER.

To the Editor of the Westport Times and 'Charleston Argus. Sir, —It was with tho most sincere regret that I this evening read the resolution come to by the " Celtic Committee,*' in reference to the cross at Hokitika. lam in heart and soul an Irishman, and whilst wishing to see vast alterations in the government of my country, still I feel humiliated and disgraced to think that independence is vainly sought by assassination, murder, and outrage. The silence of the Committee on the dastardly act at Sydney, which has deeply grieved all true men, whether loyalist or Eenians implies, I fear, consent and tacit approval, and that at such a juncture the Addisonians can find nothing better to do than trumpet an empty defiance on a subject that was, as appears in another part of this issue, apparently about to be settled amicably to both parties, is a strong proof of the correctness of the above hypthesis. I do hope that all parties—Eenian or otherwise, will join in condemnation and detestation of the recent attempt to murder the Queen's son. I feel sure that by this deed, the cause Eenians have at heart has received a check, throughout the civilised world, and has done more injury than years can repair. In conclusion, let me repeat that I am Irish to the back bone, and love my country dearly; and on that account, both on behalf of myself, and thousands hailing from the Green Isle, emphatically disown, and hereby record our abhorence of O'Farrell's crime. The Celts of the Coast think with me, whatever their party be; and if the committee at Addison's had taken the earliest opportunity of giving expression to this feeling, they would have better discharged their duty, not only to their country, but to every other true hearted Irishman. Yours, &c, An Enniskillenek. God Save the Duke. M.
