COMMERCIAL.

WisroET Times Office, January 1 ]. The Customs Kei-enue received during the ■week for import duties has been as follows:

The flood with its consequent removal of thebondtd-storesand their contents, and the liinderance to all kinds of business thus occasioned, hove acted very unfavorably upon the commercial returns of the week, but it may ie hoped that t!iing 5 will this week assume

their accustomed briskness. The imports have not been large, and stocks of many articles arc running somewhat low j tho expected arrival of tho Nightingale and two or three other vessels, will however put a different complexion on the markets. There are many changes to note in the prices current: the chief is in flour, -which has advanced to as high as £22. This is owing not so much to short stocks, as to the great advance quoted in tho Adelaide and Melbourne markets. English bacon and hams are also looking up, being in considerable demand. From to 30 head of cattle were sold during tho weok at from £l4 to £l7, and about 150 sheep at tolerably good prices. The arrival of a supply of both in tho Murray and probably in tho Beautiful Star, will possibly causo a slight decline of price, although tho stock in liand having run low since Christmas, there is amplo room to place thorn. Pigs are in demand; good porkers not being at all plentiful. A noteworthy arrival is that of tho first cargo of Mokiliinui coal, on article that wo may sometiino honco have to place among our most important items of exports and imports.
