GREWTOWN NEWS.
| (From Our Own Correspondent). Giimowx, Friday, On Christmas Evo our town was unusually lively. Mr Cress, of the Foresters' Arms Hotel, was tho only publican who decorated his premises iu honor of the festive season. Mrs A, Jones, baker, also decorated her shop. There were a large number of visitors and strangers in town. Most of tho business people were kept busily employed in their shops up to a late hour.
The Band played several selections lalo iii the evening, and a party of carol singers journeyed to Carterton and serenaded the "residents there, and were treated right royally, Mrs Playle, of Matarawa, narrowly oscaped a serious accident yesterday morning, Whilst riding along Main-street, a basket attached to the saddle haying become unfastened, and hanging loose, caused the horse she was riding to" play up " with tho result that the ridonvas soon unseated and landed on term firma. Fortunately beyond a shaking she escaped unhurt,
