Wellington, Tuesday. The now cable on board tho Tainui will be laid at once from Otoronga Bay on the same route as the last cable. This will give four lines to the South Island. The Telegraph Department is now engaged extending coppor lines Auckland, and tho resistance ifl( copper is so reduced that Auckland can bo worked as easily as a place 20 miles from Wellington, and consequently in bad weather the lines will bo less subject to interruption from leakage.

Chi'istchurch is already connected with a copper wire, but it will be some months before the North extensions are completed.
