THE TOWN LANDS TRUST.
MR LOWES' SEAT. [TO THE EDITOR,] Sir,—l can hardly allow your criticism in Saturday's paper with regard to Mr Lowes' scat to pass without a personal explanation. No odd, I think, raorethan the Trustees, regrets the loss of Mr Lowes' services. We each recognise him as ■ the strong man of the team, and to |r clear myself from tho imputation of wilful neglect, I must ask you to allow me to explain my own position, Tha only times I liavo been in Mr Lowes' house wero when on two occasions, just prior to two moetings of the Trust, I waited on him to consult ns to his wishes in Trust matters. On each of these occasions and on a later one, whou I saw Mr Lowcb in the train at Carterton on his way to Wellington, I reported and explained the cause of his absence at the next Trust meeting, and only when tin Clerk informed me on Friday last that Mr Lowes'seat was vacant did I realise that formal leave had not been granted. While a seat on the Trust is worthy the ambition of tho best among ue, might I suggest that aspirants for the honor should decline to be nominated and allow Mr Lowes to complete his term of office, if he will consent.—l am, etc., 0. E. Daniill.
