TENUI NEWS

From Our Oirii Curmpondent. The first meeting of the Te Nni Athletic Club, was held in the Te Nui Hotel on Saturday night last, A great number of members were present, Last year's balance-sheet was the first thing to be shown, and it is indeed very creditable to nil those who had anything to do with tho previous sports. At present the Club have a balance of close on £2O, A strong committee was then formed, and Mr R, B, Owen was again elected Secretary, his services as such at the last meeting showing his ability for that position ; Mr S. R, Raleigh was appointed Assistant Secretary, theie being too much for one to manngo on the Sports' ground. It was proposed to ask Mrs Owen to accept the publicans booth at thesame charge us last year. In previous years the refreshment booth hits been in the hands of the committee, but it is a great drag upon them, some of them being tied to it all day. It was proposed that the Secretary see if hecouklgcta private person to take the booth. The Secretary has also been instructed to write to the Taueru Band to see if they are engaged on New Year's Hay. If they are not, it was proposed that their services be engaged for the occasion, also for the ball in the evening. It was resolved to make the Sports local, the boundary to bo the same as that ol tho old racing district. If was also decided to have one or two amateur events. Tho meeting then terminated. Owing to a great number of the children being laid up, it has been decided to close the School until Monday next, The " nippers" seem to be attacked with' la grippe' in lather a severe form, First they are attacked with a cold, which gradually gets worse, until it ends in the above. Tho trotting craze is all the go in To Nui now. Everybody has a trotter—well bo is called such eyou if he cannot " break " five minutes. Some of them arc too slow for a funeral, The weather still continues changeable, there not being two fine days following.
