Mr 0. Cress' Foresters' Arras Hotel narrowly escaped being burned down last night. About ten o'clock Llie alarm of lire was given by Mr A. It. Hornblow, when it was found that the curtain in a bedroom occupied by Mrs Cress were in Humes. It appears that Mr Cress' mother bad retired to bod, the window being a little open, and was just putting tbo candle out when the wind blew tbo curtains on to the candle igniting them, She worked well to get the flumes under, scorching her faco and hands. Sbc then tried to get out, but knocked tbo key out of the door, which was locked. Her daughter broko iho door open, and Mr Cress rushed in and fought manfully with the llames, which wore beginning to get a hold on the ceiling, until he extinguished them. He burnt his bands sovcroly, in his fight with the flames. About £SO worth of damage was done, and had it not been for the quick alarm given, and Mr Cress' presence of mind, Greytown would havo witnessed a big conflagration,
