`TE NUI NEWS.

From Our Om Correspondent. Once more we have the shearing in full swing. The clip this year will not be so heavy as last year's owing to the want of warm weather! The weather of late has not been. all that could be dosired, especial' for shearing. We have hadJjfe many showers and not enough warn weather, consequently the grass and the gardens are not looking as well aB they ought to. Many people out here are troubled with destructive garden slugs, which eat almost any plants they come across. Last Saturday and Sunday saw a number of visitors on their way to Cashpoint, where they intended to indulgo in a little fishing, but I am sorry to say they did not meet with much luck. On Sunday morning the wind rose terribly, and, of coarse, the sea too rough for fish, not a sohnapper wascaught. All the fishers snapped! Nothing daunted somo of our local residents intend making another trip at some future date. One gentleman "fisher" from Masterton has been to Castlepoint on three or four different occasions, and each time he has had bad weather. He is determined not to try his luck there again. Report Bays a trottiug race take placo horo on Saturday, Wf shillings entrance fee and the winner takes the lot, tho last man shouts for tho" push." I heard the other day that our doctor is going to leave ns" for pastures new," It iB to bo hoped tho inhabitants of Te Nui and surrounding districts will do their best to keep him here, as his services would be greatly missed. _llrs_ Wickstead, our postmaster's wife, is, I am happy to say almost recovered from her recent illness, by which she has been bed-ridden for over two months. Dr. Dawson has bad the case in hand, TheQrasßendale SportsCommittoe intend having two or three amateur events on their programme for Boxing Day, which will make it the moro attractive. The first meeting of the Te Nui Athletic Club iB to bo held in the Te Nui Hotel on Saturday next. On Saturday last an ill-dressed specimen of humanity was begging for a two-penny Btamp with which to post a letter. Some few weelajj back we read of au individual vs£ Napier way begging from house to bouse for a stamp, and when ho bad collected enough, ho mado traoks for the nearest pub, and our visitor's oracle did not work in Te Nui! Mr B. Skeet met with a nasty accident yesterday. Ho was carrying a pair of shears in a saddle bag on his horse. When ho went to get off he ran the points of the shears into his foot and inflicted a bad cut, Dr. Dawson is attending the Bufferer.
