From Our Oini Cormpumlent. Giiettowx, Wednesday. Guy r'awkes' Day was celebrated by the small fry here yesterday, The concert in aid of the Presbyterian Church at Morrison's Bush last night was a great success, Greytown and Marl inborough talent being well represented. Heavy rain fell here last night and early this morning, doing much good to the crops. Thursday. The election to fill a vacancy on the Waiohiue River Board took place yesterday and resulted in favour of Mr Rob't, Judd. Mr Budding was the only other candidate, and lie made no effort to secure his return in the way of canvassing.
The Oddfellows hold a concert here on the 15th instant. The district officers will be present and will deliver brief addresses.
Several members of the Greytown Lodge of Oddfellows have expressed their intention of being present at a social to be held in the Masterton Lodge-room next Wednesday evening, they having received an invitation from the Masterton Lodge.
Mr J. Tocker, who was taken rather seriously ill recently, has improved again, and was able to take a walk in the sunshine this week,
Mr G. Humphries, who recently went to the Wellington Hospital to undergo an operation, has improved since the operation, and expects to be out again in about three weeks time.
Early yesterday morning an old native chief known as" Bobby Cole," died rather suddenly at Sam Maliupuku's residence, Papawui Road. An inquest was held by the Coroner and a jury, a Verdict of death from rupture of the heart being returned. The deceased leaves a widow and family.
