The second {the people's) day at Wnirarapa Pastoral and Agricultural Society's Show was a record ono. Although heavy rain fell at daybreak and continued till nearly seven o'clock, all who were most interested were pleased to see the ' day turn out exceptionally fine and mild, and even those at a distance were encouraged to keep up what is now a recognised annual outing. The attendance was considerably larger than on any previous occasion, and could not have been short of 7000, as the receipts at the gates amounted to £24812s 6d. This is in. elusive of £l2 tho first day, over |SO more than last year. At flk Grandstand the receipts were £s' 16s, or £ll moro thau taken the previous year. Tho Society is to bo congratulated on such highly satisfactory results, due, no doubt, to tho determination of the Officers and Committee to make the gathering as attractive as possible. The morning train from Wellington brought up a large number of visitors, and the special train from Ekotahuna at noon landed some 700 or 800 passengers on the Carterton platform. Besides this a very large number of Masterterton people wont by road, every available vehicle being pressed into service for the occasion. Notwithstanding the very largo concourse of people present there wa9 not the slightest sign of intoxication, and the officials associated with Constable Darby had extremely light duties. Tho principal features of the day's proceedings were giving finishing touches to several sheep classes, dairy and fat cattle, the judging of\ the Clydesdale stallions, farm horsed banters, weight-carrying backs, iA harness horses, poultry, pigeons,'produce, pigs, dogs, etc. The first and second prizes for pen of lambs were awarded to Mr W. Booth, who exhibited very fine lambs. The following additional awards (championship) were made in sheep sections -Shropshire Down, Bidwill Bros,, gold medal for rams, and Messrs Williams and Beetham for ewes; Hampshire Downs, J. Eayner, gold medal for ram and silver medal for ewe; Soutbdowns, Mr W. C. Buchanan was awarded gold medals for both ram and ewe. The award for the best dairy cow in milk fell to Mr H. W. Clay's cow ' Spot,' Mr S. Hart's making a good second. In fat cattle Mr W, C. Buchanan carriod off tho principal honours, including the silver medal. DRAUGHT HOHSKS.

This class was not only well ropre-,. sented numerically, but the animalsflA were above the average. Mr wfPj Hercock was awarded the championship for his well-known horse 1 'Hero,' Messrs Tilson andMcFarlano's 'PrideofStrathsmore' second. Mr J, Hessey annexed the silver medal for mare in foal or with foal at foot, with his favourite mare ' Darling.' Messrs W. C. Buchanan and Jas. McGregor were the principal prizo takers in draught horses. There were exceptionally large entries in the weight-carrying hack sections, especially in the list section,

In the heavy hacks the chief honours were won by Mr E. W. Dorset's bay mare' Ethel,'with Mr G. W, Deller's' lloany' second. For backs up to 12st, Mr D. Pike's' Poppit' the best girls' pony. Three pairs of bandsomo buggy horses were presented to the Judges, whose fancy fell on Mr W. 0. Buchanan's well-known pair' Susan' , and 'Naomi,' while they selected Dr W, Bey's 'Dan' as the best single buggy horse presented. Mr W, H, Williams ra awarded first honours for horso 'Picton,' shown in dog-cart, a like award being given to A. Coy for bis gelding 'Prince,' in tho class sot apart for fanners' trap horses. In the pony sections the Judges s pronounced in favour of Mr S. Pike's 'Tit Willow,' W. Strang's 'Maca- | roni' and Mr S. Pike's' Peop-O'- ' Day " as the pick of their classes, J'IGS, i _ The principal awards, gold and silver medals, wero carried off by Mr J. Rayner, who exhibited soma splendid animals in this class. There was a good entry of dogs iit various classes, the first prize for smooth-haired sheep collie falling to the lot of Mr J. Hessey's ' Skipper,' and that for the best rough-haired dog to Mr A, D.Axup's 1 Haste.' I'HODUCE. _ This was one of tho most interesting exhibits at the Show, and elicited keen eompetiliou, so much so that the Judge in many cases found it l difficult to decide between tho merits A of first and second. There wero twenty-five entries of home-made bread, and most of tbem of exceptional quality. This also applies to the exhibits of home-made scones. Miss Miller was awarded the honor of presenting tho best loaf, and Mrs T. G. Ratbbone for the best plato of scones. Jkt Messrs Wallace ami Masson exa very handsome and wellfinished doj; cart and convertible waggonette, also a light farm cart. Thos. Wagg and Co. had a roomy and comfortable double buggy on view which was much admired. The Masterton Blacksmith and Wheolwrighfc Company's entry of vehicles included a sociable, phaeton, waggonette, pagnel cart, farm cart with hay frame, market cart, two paragon gigs, vis-a-vis phaeton, all oxcellont examples of what can ho done by them. Mr John Kcaexhibitedn farm cart and single-seated buggy. T* Mr Y. H. Wood had on view a phaeton, double-seated buggy, gig, and double and single buggies. Brenchly, of Manriceville; an lombroidery machino ; Wellington ftjlcat Export Company's manure; a churn by T, Garland; Langtoue's Sheep Me'dicine Company's sheep medicines, parasitocide and lixo; P. Bock and Co.'s insect powders (mortem), cement, etc., etc. LEAMH, F.TC The leaping competitions -always popular attractions at Agricultural Shows—wete yesterday very interesting, and the excellent all-round jumping plainly evidenced the fact that the horses of this district are not strangers to the sport. The competition was very close and not a single spill or accident of any kind occurred. Tho Judges in several events had some difficulty in making their awards. Mr Harold Welch had the distinction of riding the first and second horses, both yesterday and the day before, in all the leaping contests. This is probably a record, at anyrate for this district. In the Leaping Match Mr G. H. Perry's ' Sunbeam' took first prize, Mr Harold Welch's 'Two-up' being placed second, thirteen horses coinL poling, In the Hunters' CompetiJwiion,' Two-up' was placed first, and Mr Jas. Donald's ' Supplejack' second, and Mr G. H. Perry coming a close third. I'RIZE LIST. Tho following is the completed prize list continued from yesterday; SHEEP.
