OPAKI AND KOPUARANGA NEWS.

1 j From Our Own Cormpondent. . At a meeting of the Committee t formed to work up a concert in aid i of the Opaki School Library, it was i decided to hold a concert some time in November. Quite a number of 1 ladios and gentlemen have promised 6ongs, recitations, piano solos, etc., 1 and are hard at work practising for the occasion, so I think we may hope for a success. k meeting of Upper Opaki settlors, convened by Mr Cook, was hold on Monday 21st, to consider the question of obtaining a school somewhere inhisvicinity. I aminformed that nothing vory definite was arrived at, No doubt some of the children have a long walk, some of five or six miles, and if the present school was somewhere noar Mr W. Harris', it would be in a muoh more central position. It is a pity that the Education Board does not build their schools on wheels, so that they could shift them to suit these country settlements, for every year settlers get further into the bush which of course alters the position of affairs, The Kopuaranga dairy factory is not getting a very large supply of milk as yet, it is to be hoped it will do better later on. I think the farmers should try and keep tho thing 1 going for their own Bakes. At any rate it would be a great pity to soe ■ the concern fall through. I hear [ that some of the suppliers are not satisfied with the way in which tho Company altered the system of paying for the milk and bo will not Supply this year. The Company, lam f told, agreed to pay 3d per gallon for five years, but are now paying- so ] much per lb for butter fat according to test, which in my opinion is the „ correct thing. All the'same I think c ♦hey' should have stuck to their ( agreement or'jnade'some f terms with tlie suppliers, ' '
