A return prepared on the motion of Mr Carroll shows that there aro 24 secondary schools iu tho Colony, iu in which 131 toilers arc engaged in giving instruction to 2454 pupils. It is calculated that of the pupils attending thpsp secondary schools tlicro aro (approximately) 500 who could not pass Standard VI. of the primary schools. The cost of the secondary schools in 1894 was £'18,390.

Miss Sheen is to take the part of Serpolette in Lcs Cloches de Corneville.and will most probably be present at next Tuesday's rehearsal. A cabman named John Huntley mot with a peculiar mishap in Sydney. He was driving his vehicle along Oxfordstreet, when the horse attached to it dropped down dead. Very extensive improvements arc now being mndc to the cattle yards at the Mastcrton Itailway Station, the whole of which aro being re-pitched with stones aud afterwards cemented. An additional yard, capable of accommodating live hundred sheep, has also been added, aud whon finished the yards will be as large aud convenient as any in the Colony. The work will not be completed for somo little timo yet, as tho runs to the trucks arc also to be re-laid in specially made bricks. The yards will hold a total of 2,500 sheep.
