OPAKI AND KOPUARANGA.

From Our Own Correspondent. Monday.

Thoro is very little news from this quarter, The Opaki Quadrille Assembly have decided to hold their final break-up on the 18th of this month, in Mr H. Welch's shed, when we aspect to havo a real good time, A committee was formed last week to work up ut concert if possible, to be given in aid of tho Opaki School Library. A committee of ladies, I believe, have promised to assist, so I hope to seo the affair carried out, for there id, no doubt, that a, School Library is a grand thing for any of tho children who are fond of good reading.

The weather for the last week has been very severe-frosts every night, and of course things have gone back a lot, and the fruit trees have suffered in a great many cases.

The Kopuaranga station is quite lively at present, what with the railway carpenters, who are building a bridge on the line whore the embankment was washed away some time ago, owing to pressure of back water, This will bo a good thing for Mr A, Stewart, as the water will have a chance now to get away instead of swamping him out or rather his sheep, for in tho last flood ho lost quite a hundred. The telephone men are also camped opposite the station. Quite a canvas town. I supposo thoy are making for the Forty-Mile Bush—perhaps the Makuri Wilds -as I seo by your last weok's paper thoy are wanting oue up that way.
