CORRESPONDENCE.

STREET OBSTRUCTION. [TO TUB KDIIOR.] Sir,—Evory now aiul again, complaints aro made through the columns of the local papers, that individuals congregate in groups on fho Queen-street footpaths, causing obstruction and annoyance to ladies and others who wish to parade up mill down or go shopping. Very few Saturday evenings pass without my walking up and down Queen-1 street footpaths, several times, and I can honestly say that I never observed any obstruction worthy of [ the name, and I consider those who I make a practice of congregating in groups on the footpaths on Saturday evenings, for a friendly chat, would compare favourably, ■ as far as behaviour goes, with any oilier town in the Colony, but on last Saturday evening, there was a real obstruction in front of one of the stores, which compelled everybody to slop off the footpath into the muddy street. The footpath ii: this particular spot has been more or less obstructed for some time past, and is likely to be totally blocked for some time to come. It is about time our City I Fathers bestirred themselves and took measures to prevent obstructions being placed across at least the principal footpaths for an unnecessary length of time, and not allow j what should only be a few days' obstruction, to he extended for weeks, just owing to bad management, by pulling things to pieces before the materials are at- hand to reconstruct.! again with all rwoiiftblo speed. It I may be said that the building was ! in a dangerous condition, but oven so, the dangerous portion could have been taken down, without interfering with the lower portion, until all things were in readiness for rebuilding. This would have obviated the necessity of boarding oil the footpath for some time, and then only for a few days.—l am, etc., Hatkpavkh.
