DISCONTENTED CO-OPERA-TIVE LABORERS.
By Telegraph.—Own t'omipondint, I Wemi.wtos, Wednesday, The Premier has promised to send the Engineer to enquire into the complaints of some of the platelayers and ballast men at Eketahunu, who state that the value of their work has been seriously underestimated by the Engineer in charge —Mr Louch, It is stated that a fortnight has ken lost with the completion of the Jino to Newman, owing to the huckstering as to whether sixponce or a shilling a yard should be allowed for shifting ballast, and in the raeantimo the sawmillers cannot despatch their timber, through t-ho bad state of tlio iioad. The storekeepers, butchers, and other tradesmen report that they will not supply thomen,as the money offered will not enable them to earn a living.
