motors. The electric railways aro usually suspended above the surface of the ground, and a line which can be cheaply constructed and economically worked, is the result. There are probably even now electric experts in Wellington who could estimate the cost of making an electric railway to the Wbarcama, and of maintaining it when constructed. Would one pay ? The answer to this is but if it would not, why then, what is there to hinder a horse tramway being laid between Jlnsterton and Tenui Light rails suitable for a tramway, could he placed on the present formed and metalled road. Even a tramway to the Wbarcama would reduce the freight on wool and stores, and supersede sea-carriage. It would also cheapen passenger trullki and generally develop the rcsomvos of the Wbarcama district. We did not agree with the suggestion made by our correspondent, Jlr Bacon, but we regarded his letter of some value, as it called attention to the advisability of improved communication between tho Wlmvettimi district and Jlasterton, and in this way it maj do great good by leading people tr think out the best way of solving 11 somewhat dillicult problem.
