Gentlemen,-Your Committee, in ( presenting their third anuual report for tho yenr ending 181)1-95, liavo to again congratulate members on the continued success maintained by the Club. Through tho efforts of an energetic and hard-working executive, the results for the year have been of a most satisfactory nature, and it is due to your Committee, that the iucrcnsc in amateur athletics lias beensomatked, as may be well judged from the increased roll of membership, now numbering 80 odd members. \ Club Meetings.—The Club's Spring Meeting was held on 22nd November, 18M, and though not financially tho \ success il was expected to be, it was in every other respect a very good meeting. The list of entries was somewhat smaller than usual, and to this we must attribute tho lateness of the year at which the Sports wera held. Your Committee, Lowover, proposo to hold lliem a mouth earlier this year, (2<lth Oct.) and thus prevent a re-occurrence. The Autumn Meeting held o>n2Bth March, 18115, was admitted to B the best yet held by tho Club; theories were very large and events keenly contested, and these, together witli a large attendance, helped to make it the success / it undoubtedly was. Your Committee 1 regret that more interest is not evinced by the cycling members of the Club, most of the events placed on tho programme for their beuelit, at tho last meeting, too _practically one liorso races. A " notice of motion " is before you this evening, for the " disbandmcnt of the cycling portion of the Club," and il is to be hoped you will endeavour to arrive at some satisfactory issue with regard to this matter. Several J members of tlio Club liaye, during the year, joined the runks of the benedicts; prominent among them being three of our L'onnnittctvmcu. JclVrics, during the past year, and lor his cll'orts in furthering the interests of the Clubsince its inauguration, For the Committee, VI. Jefkbies, Hon. Sec,
j The following now numbers were elected Messrs H. Sullivan, M, Meadows, Jus. Mowlam, J. Lambert, W. Mason and J. Mandel. The election of olliccra for the ensuing year resulted as follows President: Dr W. H. Hosking; Vico-presidents: Messrs C A. Pownall, li. M. D, What mini, J. Mucara, W. Jeffries, W. H, Beetbam, H. Holmes, and Dr. Butomeut; Cycling n aptain, Mr D. Casolberg ; Subiptain, Mr M. Meadows ; Comlitteo: Messrs Perry, D'Arcy, ■ Ingg, Broad, ami McGovern; Treasurer, Mr L. Caselberg ; Secretary, Mr Jas, Mowlem. A deal of discussion ensued ovora notice of motion proposed by Mr C. Perry, " that tbe cycling portion oE the Club bo disbanded, and tbe Club be carried on as the Wairarapn, Amateur Athletic Club," ijho mover, in speaking to the miff'), said his desire was to test the feeling of those present on the question. The cycling members in the past had not infused any enthusiasm into their portion of the programme, and cycling events had of late proved a, failure. The Club was under a certain amount of expenso in getting the track ready for races, and the support given did not show a sulK- . cient roturn for their trouble. Messrs D'Arcy mid Jeffries supported the motion, and said they could not understand why, with such I a number of cyclists in the Club, so 1 few competed. The prizes generally i wore taken by outside riders, who in many cases bad vory easy work ; in defeating the two or three who thought it worth while to represent their Club. Mr G. Cooper moved an amendment "that the cycling portion be not disbanded from the Club," aud added a suggestion to tho Committee that the majority of tbe ovonts ba for roadster bicycles only, and that racers only bo allowed to compete for special or open ovents, ,Mr Cooper staled this his idoa ofgjjte non-success iu tho past was owiflfto racing machines being allowed to compete in all events, and ho had even seen a racer and roadster sent away from tho samo mark. Local enthusiasts bad thus become discouraged, and refused to race under such circumstauces, and ho considered tbey were perfectly justified, Messrs Meadows and D. Caselberg strongly supported the amended suggestions, aud thought if tbe Club acted upon them its success would ba assured, and all members would compete, when there was a chance for fair racing ou even They were only too pleased to meet Wellington amateurs, but refused to be handicapped to such an extent with regard to machines as in tha past. Tho roadster races would attract numerous entries, and ono or two bvents could also be placed ou the programme for racers.
After au interesting discussion bj other members, the carried on the voices. .w Hearty votes of thanks being passed to the retiring Secretary, Chairman and Mr Maudoi for the rise of the room, tho meeting adjourned.
