THE HAWERA FIRE ENQUIRY.

During the past two or three days an (inquiry requested by the insurance companies, into tho circumstances of the recent fire lias beon going on, Mr Kottlc, S.M., presiding. Tlio evidence is very contradictory whore tho firo actually broke out. Tho assistants at work in C, Smith's shop say that it occurred in the window, but the nightwatchman and othoi witnesses who wcro-imme-f diately on tho scono dcolaro that the fire did not start in the window, but in the shop. Evidenco was also given that cases of goods'were sent from the shop by Campbell, of which tho othor assistants in the shop kuew nothing, and woro sent to Campbell's aunt at Patea. _ . Tlio enquiry lias been extending from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, and i now stands adjourned till next Wednesday,
