THE RUAMAHUNGA DROWNING ACCIDENT.
— —♦- —■ — THE BODY FOUND, Very ninny pooplo took part yesterday in the search for tho body of tho youth William Waito, who was drowned while- attempting to cross tho Ruamahunga River, on September 6th,
Messrs J. L. Murray, E. Nops, and A. and J. Welch formed one party, and firmly improssed with tho idea that the body had not drifted far from whoro Waite was drowned, they procured a boat, and with considerable difficulty worked it up to the hole where the accident ocourred, The water was clear, and in one of the deepest places the body was seon tightly grasping the branch of a treo lying on the bottom, With tho help of a lonj boat-hook, which the party had taken the forethought to provide, Mr Murray succeeded in securing the body, and it was conveyed to the bank, and after being placed on a stretcher, carried somo four miles to Mr Murray's trap, The inquest was opened to-day before Mr T. Hutchison, S.M., (District Coroner), and tho following jury:—Messrs A. P, Feildiug (Foreman); E, Street, Alfred Harris, Thos, McGuire, Thos, Boss and Dan Lea.
After having viewed the body, the inquest was adjourned till Friday next, at 10 a.m., in order that the policemay have timeto bring forward evidence,
