Messrs 11. K. Hornblow & Co., I auctioneers and produco merchants, report business as follows, for week ending Saturday, September 14th : Business still continues prosperous, and our sole at the People's Auction Mart on Saturday, was oue of the best wo have had for some months past, the building being literally packed with, buyers, and good prices realised. Our horse sale was not up to the average, the demand for horses of any description being slack and the bidding slow. Poultry was scarce, but the lines entered, showed a decided improvement in price. Eggs still show a downward tendency, but butter remains at last quotation. The same may be said of grain. Our produce and fruit sale; had a big run on Saturday. Our property department receives numerous enquiries for land, more especially from the South Island, where numerous settlers have evidently decided to quit, after tho severe winter they have gone through. From letters we have received, the heavy losses of stock have brought ruiu to many a home. We append prices as follows: Eggs, 5d per dozon; butter, 9d por lb. Ducks, 4s; geese, 4s 3d ; turkeys, (dead) 3s 9d each. Bacon and hams, 6d to 7|d per lb, Mutton birds, Is per pair. Fruit—Oranges, 3s to 3s 9d por case; bananas, 3s per box. Potatoes, os to 6s per sack. Jams, 3d per tin; mullet (fish) 6d per tin (auctioned). Horses—Hacks, £3 to £7; harness do., £4 to £ll. Vehicles—Buggies, £i 10s and [£3B; harness, 2os to 40s; saddles, ;12s to 30s
