WAIRARAPA NORTH COUNTY COUNCIL.
FINANCE COMMITTEE.
The Finance Committee of the Wairarapa North County Council mot this morning. Present—Crs Mannsell (chairman), D, Guild, E. Smith, J. Groves, anil Uaudysido. The minutes of the previous nieetinc were read and continued,
Tho Troasuror reported, as follows; General Fund Account, dr. £3184 4s 2d; L.B.L. acconntci-. £2163 Is; net debit £lO2l 3s 2d. Accounts show a debtor balmico of £1251> Is 2d, Tho receipts since Stli August amounted to £795- Os sd, including rales £552 7s 9d ; interest refunded from South County £8710s; tolls, £4l; Government thirds, £77 3s lid.
The Committee recommended that the Council direct the Clerk to write to tho member for the district, (Mr A, W, Hogg, and ask him to ascertain by question to tho House, whether tho Government will take the opinion of the Crown law officers on the question of whether the Commissioner of Taxes is acting within the law by aggregatim? the rates collected in merged road districts, in any comity,for the purpose of compntinglhe amountof subsidy thereon, and advising the member at the same timo that the County Council's Association were decidedly of opinion that the rates collected in several merged Eoad Districts, should be dealt with separately, but they had declined to pass a resolution inviting the attention of the Government to tho point in question, Accounts amounting to £641 Ids 5d were recommended for payment, and on account of special ciwsiun stances an annual allowance of £o was recommended to be paid to roadman Crisp,
