TWO MEN BURNT TO DEATH,
The Press Association agent at Hawera wires:—Terrible firo broko out last evening inMessrsC. Smith's drapery shop, and spread to tho Egmont Hotel so rapidly that all the boarders had not time to escape. Mr Cavershill, Secretary to tho Waitara Freezing Works, and Mr Turner, arohitectand carpenter, being burned to death.
The fire spread to as far as Mr Caplen'S] solicitor. Princess-street, where it was stopped by a concreto wall.
In the other direction, it spread to the Commercial Hotel, and all along to the new Post Office, Courthouse, Faber's stables, and the Star Office, all of which were totally destroyed. There was no «c blowing at the time.
The centre of tho town is cleared,
